Information for Future Tutors

Tasks

Time Commitment

  • Tutoring sessions will be be 30-90 minutes long. Dependent on subject and tutee's request.

  • Create slideshow, practice problems, jamboards, etc. to aid in the tutee's understanding of the subject material.

  • Attend monthly recap meetings with the President/ Vice President and Tutor Director.

**Note: all future tutors will have an interview with one board member and two other directors/tutors to determine the subjects they are best at and ways to gain experience in weaknesses. Some tutors may start out working with a more experienced tutor for a short period of time to help them get used to any procedures, etc.

  • Tutors will need to tutor at least 1 subject.

  • Participants will need to tutor a minimum of 1 session per week (unless absent due to illness, death in the family, holiday, etc.)

  • A tutor will need to tutor for at least 1 hour a week.

  • Must create lesson plans to submit to the tutor or educational content director. These lesson plans can span for only 1 session or multiple.

  • Between sessions and lesson planning the time commitment will most likely span between 3-6 hours.

Requirements**

  • A tutor must be at least 14 years old to apply.

  • Tutors will be interviewed and asked to demonstrate their mastery by explaining concepts out loud (among other "tests"). 

  • During your first session, there will be an experienced tutor with you to help all processes run smoothly and assist if any technical difficulties occur. 

  • Tutors interested in tutoring for an AP or any standardized tests (SAT, ACT, PSAT) need to be able to demonstrate mastery of that subject and an in-depth understanding of concepts. Sample AP exam questions may be asked to assess. 

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Passion to help others.

  • You DO NOT need to have any past experience.
